5 things that happened in F1 in 2016

2016 was an eventful year in F1 . There were number of controversies. Handful of driver changes and retirements. Here are the top 5 things that happened in 2016 -  1.Elimination-style qualifying  In the beginning of the 2016 the elimination-style qualifying was set to be introduced. Australian GP qualifying was one of the most boring qualifying session in the history of the sport.  Cars were not on track during the end of sessions including the last few minutes of Q3 where drivers would fight for pole position. The elimination-style qualifying was dropped due to protest from Team principals and drivers and  was reverted to the old system of qualifying with immediate effect. 2. Daniil Kvyat's move from Redbull to Toro Rosso  This move came just days after Kvyat crashed into the back of Sebastian Vettel's Ferrari in Russia. Kvyat was immediately switched with Max Verstappen in Toro Rosso. This was reasoned by Redbull as a move to allow Vertsappen to show

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2016 - The Finale

Nico Rosberg was crowned the 2016 World champion on Sunday at Abu Dhabi! The action of the race was concentrated over the first few laps and last few laps. The last 20 laps were simply stressful for any  Mercedes fan. First of all Max Verstappen’s stint on the super softs was incredible. Despite having an early spin and falling back to the end of the pack, he suddenly found himself in the middle of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg courtesy of pit stops. Both the Mercedes were on newer tyres and Rosberg was told it was critical to pass Verstappen. I mean all of the drivers on track he had to pass Max, one of the toughest drivers to overtake and on top of that he had to do it for the championship! Nico eventually did pass him and Max soon had to pit for new tyres. “I thought I wouldn’t see Max today, not today BUT there he was again!” – Nico Rosberg  Now to the last 20 laps, Sebastian Vettel had just pitted after doing a 28

Max Verstappen overtakes the show in rain hit Brazil

The unpredictable weather in Brazil guarantees a good race.  It was going to be a wet race and the race started behind the safety car (boring). Lewis Hamilton led the race from start to finish. Safety cars and Red flags kept resetting the gaps to zero. First Marcus Ericsson crashed , seconds after racing resumed Kimi Raikkonen ended up in the wall on the front straight. Overall there were 2 red flags and about 5 safety car intervals leading to a 3 and half hour race. Redbull tried something a little different with their tyre strategy but it failed and Max had to pit for full wets on Lap 54. He re-joined the race in 16 th and overtook 13 cars in 17 laps that brought him up to 3 rd ! Max is surely a world champion in the making.  Felipe Massa had a very emotional last home race. He unfortunately crashed but received a huge round of applause from the crowd and the mechanics. Sebastian Vettel finished 5 th after spinning early on. He made his way his through the field f

Mexican Grand Prix 2016

Mexico was in a word dramatic. Lewis Hamilton won the race keeping his title hopes alive , Nico Rosberg finished second also keeping his title hopes alive and Daniel Ricciardo finished 3rd in a rather twisted way. Although most the excitement was during the first 10 laps, the last 10 laps and after the race , there was a safety car when Gutierrez and  Wehrlein collided but it didn't make much of a difference. Both the Mercedes had a run onto the grass , Hamilton especially going a little excursion and Rosberg had a rather small moment while fighting with Verstappen. Niki Lauda condemned Verstappen saying that he could have taken Nico out of the race and that he needs to realise that he's driving too aggressively. He also said "It's a Lost cause"(ouch). Both the Mercs were in a race of their own , oblivious to all the chaos happening behind them.   First of all Sebastian Vettel did an amazing 31 lap stint on the softs mind you Pirelli have given the uppe

F1 ladies 2016

The Japanese grand prix was won by Nico Rosberg who was flawless since the start. Lewis unfortunately made a mistake during the start and dropped down to 8th. Sebastian Vettel made a good start and soon overtook Ricciardo and Perez for podium position. Kimi Raikkonen closely followed him. Ferrari took a gamble with the pitstop which put Vettel behind Hamilton in 4th.There were looottss of drivers complaining about blue flags over the radio. Max finished second followed by Lewis in  and so the championship gap is now 33 points meaning Nico rosberg can settle for 2nd in the remaining races and still win the championship. Did Ferrari throw away a another podium finish ? Probably. (PS : if you're reading my blog on a computer or laptop just move your mouse on the text , it will darken ) Onto our list :   "Behind every successful man there is a woman" 1. Vivian Rosberg    Nico and Vivian had been long time friends , the married couple live in Monaco with their bea
