Pushing The Limits

 After taking his 100th pole on Saturday, Lewis Hamilton started the race with Red Bull's Max Verstappen next to him. Starting on the back foot, Hamilton lost the race lead on Lap 1. Verstappen led the majority of the race, keeping his Mercedes rival outside DRS range. Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is known for being a hard track to overtake on. By taking the lead in turn 1 Max Verstappen and RedBull had the upper hand. Pitting on lap 24/66, Verstappen committed to a one-stop strategy. In a smart and strategic move, Mercedes and Hamilton switched to a two-stop strategy. In a very Ferrari-esq fashion, a confused RedBull didn't cover Mercedes' pitstop. This effectively gifted Mercedes and Hamilton with the win.  On fresher tyres, the 7-time world champion had a huge task ahead of him.     ©Getty Four-times world champion Sebastian Vettel won the season opener in Australia by almost 10 seconds from Lewis Hamilton and his Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas. This was Ferrari’s first win since Singapore 2015 and their first win at Albert Park since Kimi Raikkonen’s 2007 victory.      ©Getty At the beginning of the weekend there was lot of talk about Ferrari’s pre-season pace and whether it was genuine. Their pace on Sunday stood testimony to the fact that Ferrari are indeed looking good this year. Vettel took his 43 rd victory with the help of a smart strategy. Hamilton’s early pitstop put him behind the RedBull of Max Verstappen which allowed Vettel to stay out and open a decent gap , allowing him to re-join in front of Verstappen after his pitstop. Reliability issues seems to persist.Having done 5 engine changes (F.I.V.E) over the span of few days,McLaren know they are in deep trouble.The MCL32 has already stopped so many times on track that someone actually created a " Has McLaren broken down  " website.   Rookie Lance Stroll had his share of crashes during testing . He ended up in the barriers a fair amount of times. Felipe Massa was forced to sit out one day of testing because of Stroll's crash.
