Mercedes' new DAS system

Day 2 of Formula One pre-season testing at Barcelona, Spain saw Mercedes pull out a weird new system. Mercedes' technical director James Allison called referred to this system as "DAS" or "Dual Axis Steering"

The DAS works on the toe angle of the car. As explained briefly by motorsport magazine "Toe is the angle that the wheels sit in relation to dead ahead when the steering is straight. If the front of the wheels are pointing out then this is known as toe out, the opposite and they are toed in".

Engineers in F1 tweak the angle to counteract oversteer and understeer.  So what Mercedes's DAS does is that it varies the toe angle between zero toe and negative toe. On the straights the angle becomes zero, reducing drag and giving a slight speed boost. This system is not automatic. It is activated with a button on the steering wheel. The message "marker" is displayed on the dash everytime the system is activated.  The system allows the driver to change the toe by pushing or pulling the steering wheel by around 1cm.

The FIA has seemingly deemed this system to be legal. While the exact benefit of this system remains a little unclear, it has bemused the entire paddock.

Ferrari driver, Sebastian Vettel believes that the system might be uncomfortable to use. He said “I have seen it and we talked about it at lunch and it looks interesting. I guess the fact that they are running with it means that it is legal.I don’t know if it works…it is called a steering wheel not a push or pull wheel."

“I guess there is quite a lot of work to bring it to the track and it is probably not as easy as it looks for the driver to work with it."
“These things are never easy but I also guess it is not easy to operate, I think it is quite weird to have the feeling of having the wheel in your hands."

F1 Friendships/Bromances

In the title i used the word 'Bromance', if you don't know what bromance means well to put it simply it friendship between men . It's not hard to tell that it's the combination of two words 'brother' and 'romance'.  There are bromances in everywhere and F1 is not an exception. They maybe rivals while on track but off track it's a little different.  1.Fernando Alonso/Mark Webber  Mark webber might have retired form Formula one but that doesn't mean that his friendship with fellow driver Mark webber would halt. They share a common love for cycling and are often seen together in the paddock ,F1 or Le Mans.    P.S their "shipped name is webbando"             2.Sebastian Vettel/Kimi Raikkonen   Now teammates these two have been friends ever since Vettel's entry into F1 in 2007. They are often seen sharing jokes let it be on the podium or in the paddock , they spend most the driver's parad...

What Happened to Scuderia Ferrari in 2020

It’s no secret that the start of Ferrari’s 2020 F1 season has been disastrous. The team is seriously lacking pace and can barely match Racing Point—let alone Mercedes or Red Bull. Ferrari has traditionally been the main challenger or the No. 2 team during the Mercedes-dominated hybrid era. However, the lingering question is: why hasn’t Ferrari been able to consistently challenge the likes of Mercedes and Red Bull in recent years? Despite having multiple world champions like Fernando Alonso, Kimi Räikkönen, and Sebastian Vettel in their lineup, the team has failed to return to its former glory. Ferrari’s main issues seem to stem from its tendency to favor one driver over the other and its poor internal communication. They continue to make mistakes that shouldn't happen at this level—rookie-level errors. A prime example is Canada 2019, where Ferrari allegedly failed to inform Charles Leclerc about his teammate's five-second penalty. And let’s not even start on their questionabl...
