2021 is set to witness one of the biggest rule changes in F1. The
FIA has planned a new breed of futuristic cars and plenty of "behind the
scene" changes. The aim of this larger than life change is to make the
sport fairer and more competitive. Instead of quick fixes, this time the
changes will be at the grassroot level in terms of a more equal pay structure
for teams to prevent team size and money from being the decisive factor in
success. However, if a cost cap like this one is introduced, a lot of
bigger teams might protest since most of their staff would have to be laid off.
RedBull has said that if such a
situation does arise then the extra staff would be put to work on other
projects. With the WEC also making a grand rule change in 2020 with its hypercar-based
LMP1 replacement category, the idea is that the team could start a program
based on the Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar that Red Bull technologies played a
big part in designing.
The cheaper f1 car is still a
concept since Liberty media and the FIA are pushing in favour of sticking to
what engines and cars F1 currently has. For Redbull hasn’t been in great form
since the start of the hybrid era, an opportunity like this might have given
RedBull the boost they needed.
