5 things you should not tell an F1 fan

Things you should never tell an f1 fan:- 1. "The cars just go around in circles."     This is probably the most common thing that F1 fans hear. To everyone who said that DO THOSE CIRCUITS LOOK LIKE CIRCLES ?.  2. "How hard can driving be?"    These cars that are being driven are no ordinary road cars. To drive an F1 car you first need an FIA super licence. There is only hand full of drivers who have an active super licence meaning only a few are qualified to drive an F1 car .  Additionally,  when driving an F1 car there are a lot of other things that act on the drivers (keep reading). It's no easy job to drive an F1 car.     3. "*insert name of any other sport* is more physically exhausting and harder than F1."    I magine that you're going at about 300 kmph, strapped to a  702 kg car. Now your heart is beating at 200 beats per minute and temperatures around you are h...

Italian Grand Prix 2016

Nico Rosberg's two consistent wins and Lewis Hamilton's two  flawed races have brought down the championship lead to a mere 2 points. From Rosberg's 43 point advantage to Hamilton's 19 point advantage and finally now to 2 points it's been one hell of a fight between these two.  Ferrari gave their fans plenty to cheer about. Overtaking the slow starting Hamilton on the start put the Ferraris of Vettel and Raikkonen in 2nd and 3rd respectively. But Mercedes' blistering pace was eventually able to steal one podium position from the Ferraris. Sebastian Vettel did finish 3rd which gave the tifosi a lot to cheer about. Ferrari insist that things are calming down and that they are headed in a positive direction. The tracks coming up suit Redbull but at the same time are tracks in which Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen have gone well in. Maybe Ferrari can challenge Redbull and probably even Mercedes in Singapore. Redbull were prepared for one of ...

Belgian grand prix 2016

Belgian Grand Prix at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps is known for its unpredictable weather and one of the most famous corners in F1, Eau rouge.  Spa never fails. The 2016 Belgian Grand Prix was action-packed right from the start. Lewis Hamilton was starting alongside Fernando Alonso right at the back due to his combined penalties. The start was CHAOTIC. S ebastian Vettel , Max Verstappen and Kimi Raikkonen  collided in the first corner. Kimi and Max got their front wings damaged and Seb spun leaving him dead last. In the meanwhile, Button got hit by Wehrlein and within some time Carlos Sainz's tyre exploded in classic Pirelli fashion.    About the whole Max-Seb-Kimi incident, the one thing that is for sure is that Kimi is not at fault. Whose side you're on is up to you , whether it's seb or max ( whatever makes you happy) . But Max seemed to be driving very  aggressively especially when defending Raikkonen at the later stages of the race. Niki L...

German Grand Prix 2016

Last race before the summer break , the German Grand prix at Hockenheim made a comeback this season.  What seemed to be a perfect weekend for Nico Rosberg turned into disaster. Rosberg had set the fastest time in all the practice sessions and grabbed pole form his teammate Lewis Hamilton. Everything seemed to go his way that is until the race started. Rosberg had a lot of wheel spin and was immediately overtaken by both the Redbulls. He had now fallen down to fourth. The Redbulls swapped places in an amazing move (as usual) made by Max Verstappen and the Ferrari's too had switched places with Sebastian Vettel ahead in 5th.   Daniel Ricciardo finished an amazing 2nd in his 100t gp. Meanwhile at the back Felipe Massa got hit by Jolyon Palmer which ultimately led Williams to retire the car.  Rosberg and Verstappen went wheel to wheel , Rosberg however had a full steering lock and ended up pushing Verstappen out of the track. Rosberg was immediately hande...

Best of F1 Press Conferences !

Pre-Race and Post-Race press conferences not only give outcome and expectations about the race but sometimes certain questions can get pretty funny responses (especially if its Kimi Raikkonen)  Here are some of my favorite anecdotes from various press conferences - 1. The time a cow decided to cross paths with Nico Rosberg .  Watch Seb Vettel imitate what Fernando Alonso said on the team radio (" All the time you to leave the space. Ok?" .if you haven't seen it then head over to  http://pole-positionf1.blogspot.in/2015/08/best-of-f1-team-radios.html  )                                             2.Those awkward questions about teammates...                                          3. It's not always about wh...

What is happening in Mercedes?

There seems to be a lot of friction between the drivers which is clearly visible and it's not a surprise.  Recently Lewis Hamilton indicated that his relationship with Nico Rosberg was "Surprisingly really good" ( Before the Austrian GP) .Anyone would find that hard to believe considering all the history between them. The last lap of the Austrian GP was thrilling and exciting that is unless you are not a Mercedes fan. The crash between Nico and Lewis which ended with Nico dropping down to 4th and Lewis winning the race. This incident was  best   described by  Toto Wolff  as "brainless" and that Mercedes are willing to bring in Team orders if it is going to be the only way to keep their drivers from tripping over each other. Even Niki Lauda said Mercedes has a tough call to make and he's usually against team orders.  Lewis of course was against the idea of team orders saying it would take the joy of racing away and would become boring for the ...

Suicidal Seagulls or Wrong strategy call ? What cost Ferrari the win - Canadian Grand Prix

Sebastian Vettel who started 3rd skipped both the Mercedes taking the lead straight away. Meanwhile Lewis and Nico got tangled up , a move by Lewis which was describe by Nico as a "hard one" ended up with Nico in P9.  Max Verstappen skipped Daniel Ricciardo and was now on course for a  podium.  Sebastian Vettel continued to increase the gap to Lewis but Lewis eventually caught up but wasn't close enough to make a move. Ferrari made a wrong strategy call by bringing Seb in from the lead (Like they did in Australia and Spain..That's throwing away three race victories) thus giving away the race victory to Mercedes. Towards the end of the race Seb began catching Lewis at some half second per lap but two mistakes or rather two seagulls cost him time.  Yes Seagulls , Seb crashed Lewis's post race interview to talk the pair of "Suicidal Seagulls" due to which he had to brake late.   Lewis said he'd asked the Seagulls to be there th...
